Frank Weber, one of the iconic figures in the world of tattooing, both in Germany and globally, has suddenly passed away. He was the face of the Berlin Tattoo Convention, one of the first tattoo conventions ever organized in Europe, which he had organized for 32 years. Up until the latest edition held just a few weeks ago, Frank was always at the forefront, an impeccable organizer, respectful of the history of tattooing and open to new talent.
The Berlin tattoo convention, best captured the essence of tattoo culture of the 90’s – its rebellious spirit and its willingness to show a lifestyle that at the time was out of the ordinary. This unique quality attracted all those who were looking for something new, those who saw tattooing as a way to express themselves and give art a different face.
“Frank was a friend, a man with whom I shared a passion for tattooing, the biker lifestyle and that feeling of being able to do something in your life without waiting for things to come to you by chance. He was intelligent, a true businessman, and someone I turned to when I launched the London Tattoo Convention, both for logistical advice and out of respect for someone who knew more than me. It was at the Berlin Tattoo Convention, 25 years ago, that we at Tattoo Life launched the very first book in the series The Great Books on The Art of Tattooing, marking the beginning of publishing related to the tattoo world, which is now so widespread. At that time, we were pioneers, and Berlin was the place to be for launching new ideas and innovations.”
Goodbye, Frank. Thank you for everything you did for the tattooing community.
