With a background in architecture, a deep appreciation for Renaissance art, and a passion for tattooing, Clay has crafted a distinctive artistic identity that has earned him international recognition.
In this interview with Tattoo Life, we explore his journey, influences, and the philosophy that drives his work. From honoring tattoo traditions while embracing new trends to expanding his global presence. Clay shares his insights on the dynamic and evolving world of tattooing.

Hi Clay, welcome to Tattoo Life. Architecture, Renaissance art, and tattooing are the three components of your artistic personality. Would you like to tell us about it?
Thank you for the welcome. I discovered architecture through drawing and books, where I found the opportunity to create a three-dimensional expression of my sketches with a more aesthetic finish. It was there that I began studying art history more deeply in my architecture classes. In my constant search, and through a friend, I discovered the art of tattooing, which I fell in love with at first sight. That’s when I decided to start a career, seeking my artistic direction—the best decision of my life.

How did you establish yourself as a recognized tattoo artist, and what key strategies contributed to your international growth?
I would say that a fundamental aspect has been consistency and discipline with my art. I am always seeking continuous evolution in my work, and I truly enjoy studying my craft and finding new ways to express it. Time has also been essential. After more than a decade in the industry, I have had the opportunity to collaborate and learn in world-class art studios, international conventions, and with incredible artists from all over the world. All of this has helped me grow exponentially as a tattoo artist on an international level.

You’ve carved out an innovative path in the industry. How do you balance honoring tattoo traditions while embracing new trends and technologies?
I really enjoy seeing it from a creative perspective. Art is always evolving, and I think bringing in new and different ideas is essential for the growth of both our craft and the industry as a whole. With the right use of today’s technology and tools, we can create some truly amazing things. Honestly, it’s something that really excites me.

You have collaborated with artists and studios from different parts of the world. How have these collaborations influenced your evolution and the expansion of your personal brand?
Being able to share with great artists and collaborate in amazing studios has been a unique experience. It has given me the opportunity to learn new techniques, grow as an artist, and receive valuable feedback that has pushed my work forward.
But above all, it has allowed me to connect with people from all over the world, share my passion, and keep evolving in my art.

What are the most important technical aspects in your style?
In every project, I aim for a well-balanced composition that flows naturally with the body. Getting the right saturation is key. I also use different techniques to add depth and make sure my linework and graphic elements are crisp. When you bring all these things together with a lot of creativity, you’ve got a guaranteed masterpiece!

What is your vision for the future to continue expanding your presence and legacy within the tattoo industry internationally?
My vision for the future is to keep growing in the tattoo industry worldwide, improving my skills, and incorporating new techniques into my work. I want to collaborate with other artists, take part in global conventions and events, and keep pushing my style to the next level by blending tattooing with other forms of art.

I see you travel a lot for conventions. Where do you like to go?
Yes, I really enjoy traveling to conventions and big studios. Sharing knowledge with great artists is always an enriching experience. This year, I’ll be at some of the biggest conventions: The New York Empire State Tattoo Expo, Golden State Tattoo Expo, and The All Stars Tattoo Convention.

I’ll also be a judge at the Sinner’s Tattoo Expo in Dallas, Texas. I’m really looking forward to visiting the Milano Tattoo Convention, the London Tattoo Convention, and the Frankfurt Gods of Ink Convention next year. Just thinking about it excites me! Being part of these events alongside amazing colleagues and friends in the industry is truly motivating and pushes me to keep growing my art.

But you’re also an architect? The opening image on your website is very beautiful. Why did you choose it?
I was in architecture school for years, but then I shifted all my focus to the tattoo world just before graduating from the architecture faculty. It was an interesting decision at the time, but the best one of my life. The image on my website aligns with the vision of an ideal environment for me, where I could create art in a functional and aesthetic space. I loved the minimalist and cutting-edge look!

In a global market where artists have access to audiences worldwide, how have you used your international platform to differentiate yourself and showcase your art?
I always try to bring something new to my work, constantly pushing my creativity and evolving within my specialty. I’ve worked hard to develop a style that blends classical influences, like Greek mythology, with modern techniques, allowing me to offer something unique in the tattoo industry.
This distinct approach has helped me stand out and connect with a global audience that appreciates my artistic vision.
I also love staying close to my community. It’s amazing to feel their constant support. Their encouragement has been a huge part of my growth.

How would you like to greet our readers?

If you’re an artist, listen to your heart and enjoy creating the art you connect with and love the most. Time will reward you!
