For Julie, nothing can come close to the perfection of the human body. That’s why she decided to decorate it with the best that Berlin’s underground aesthetics could offer her.
Hi Julie, what does that acronym “KWR” after your name stand for?
KWR (IG: @juliekwr.tattoo) is the acronym for my crew back when I lived in Paris. I started signing my drawings with it long before I even began tattooing. I loved the mystery of staying anonymous – it forced people to appreciate the art before the artist. I only added my real name, Julie, once I went professional and wanted to connect more with my followers.

How did you get into tattoo art in your life and when did you discover that the best way to express yourself was the Ornamental and NeoTribal style?
I started collecting tattoos at 18 and got absolutely hooked, but my professional career began as environmental engineer because I wanted to make the world a better place.
Still, something felt missing: I’m a creative and free soul and that life didn’t fulfill me.
I was already going crazy for tattoos, so in 2023 I quit everything and dove into it. I started my apprenticeship doing flash doll designs, but was already dreaming bigger and once I had the technique I transitioned into Dark Ornamental bodysuits, definitely inspired by Berlin underground aesthetic and the great artists here. It’s definitely not the conventional artist’s path, but I hope it inspires someone else to chase their dreams.

Indeed you are known for your “Body Flow” tattoos. How did this original way of expression come about in your artistic life?
Every tattoo holds a story, even if it’s not immediately conscious. For me, getting inked is a way to reconnect with – and heal – my relationship to my body. It empowers my inner self and boosts my confidence and self-acceptance.

Tell me more about the Body Flow concept…
“Body Flow” came from my lifelong obsession with the human form. I’ve always sketched anatomical studies – because nothing’s more beautiful or perfect than the human body. That’s why my designs follow the natural curves, enhancing and honoring its uniqueness and helping the wearer fall in love with their own skin. It all circles back to my mantra: let it flow -energy, emotion, movement and creativity moving wild and free.

Yourself, if I’m not mistaken, are tattooed with Body Flow tattoos and NeoTribal subjects (like the piece you have on your back). Are these your projects drawn by other hands?
Yes! Most of my tattoos were done by other artists – sometimes with total creative freedom, sometimes through collaboration to ensure they reflect who I am, inside and out. I love being tattooed – it’s a ritual for me, and each piece comes from tattooers I admire as artists and friends.
My backpiece is especially symbolic: it’s my first abstract design, marking a major turning point in both my personal and professional transformation.

You work mainly in Berlin, right?
Exactly, I’m based in Berlin but travel all around Europe. I’m a resident artist at Nebel, a private space in the Friedrichshain, alongside other amazing young artists.

If you had a time machine, do you think you would use it? Would you travel to other eras or are you happy to live in 2025?
That’s such a fun question! (smiles) I love playing with the idea of past lives and reincarnation – maybe I’ve already visited some of those eras… But honestly, I’d stay in 2025. It’s a wild time to be alive, and I am living my best life.

Do you have a historical figure from the past that you would like to meet?
If I could meet someone from the past, I’d choose Caravaggio or Leonardo da Vinci – people who blurred the lines between art, science, and philosophy.

And your last famous words are…?
We’re all artists of our own lives, painting our stories on ourselves. I really want to say merci! I’m so grateful to everyone who’s supported me and trusted me with their skin – it’s taught me more than I ever imagined.
