United Ink’s No Limits International Tattoo Expo

Art Knows No Limits: International tattoo show draws creatives from around the globe

From April 20th to the 22nd, tattoo artists from around the world gathered at Resorts World Casino in New York City to be part of United Ink’s No Limits International Tattoo Expo. Over three days, thousands of people streamed in for tattoos, entertainment and the unique experiences only found at a world-class tattoo show. The room buzzed with excitement (and tattoo machines) as guests sat for their newest pieces of body art. Some were adding to their already-extensive collection of ink, while many others were there for their very first tattoo; but getting tattooed wasn’t a requirement for the full experience! Many attendees simply explored the show, which gave them the opportunity to witness some of the world’s best tattoo artists in action.

Beyond the tattoo booths, vendors, artists, and entertainers across industries offered extra amplifications to the show experience. An art gallery featured original works and live demonstrations across mediums, including body painting, fine art, and woodworking. The stage featured acts by burlesque performer Emily Shephard, gravity-defying break dancers, and a live concert from Wolf Pack Black. Coney Island Brewing Company sold their signature craft beers and offered an interactive photo station that let attendees share the meanings behind their own ink. A few booths down, Real Bearded Men shared their all-natural grooming gear and hosted a Beard Competition on the main stage where visitors could show off their impressive facial hair. Meanwhile (in true 420 style) CBD Scrip offered deliciously legal hemp goodies ranging from gummies to chocolate.

Each day, the hundreds of tattoo artists at No Limits produced truly incredible work for their clients. Beyond the individuals, though, the artists especially hoped to impress the panel of judges that reviewed their work each day and declared winners across a range of categories, including small and large portrait, watercolor, realism, and many more, with the ultimate goal of winning the Tattoo of the Day. At the end of the show, all First Place winners across categories could then compete for the Grand Prix (i.e. the “Best of the Best”).

Of all the awards presented over the weekend, no individual artist took home more than Zhang Po (known to most as “Popo”). Popo, a native of China and resident artist at World Famous Tattoo Art Gallery in Long Island, New York, won 8 trophies over the course of three days. In addition to the World Famous Tattoo Art Gallery, Popo will also be joining the team at SoHo Ink, Manhattan’s newest premium tattoo and apparel shop. SoHo Ink, which made its first convention appearance at No Limits, opened to the public on May 1st and features custom apparel, body jewelry and piercing, and some of the best tattoo artists in the world. Along with Popo, the shop’s lineup includes Jason Ackerman, and Luiz Lopes (another multi-award winner over the No Limits weekend). SoHo ink will have an amazing list of guest artists in NYC that have been seen in the USA before, like AD Pancho, Tofi, Ryan Smith, Jenna Kerr, Jay Freestyle, Sam Barber, Jak Connolley, just to name a few!

SoHo Ink wasn’t the only debut at No Limits, though! Several other brands unveiled their newest ventures. Tina Davies’ revealed her new line of permanent makeup inks in partnership with Perma Blend pigments, while also offering live microblading demonstrations throughout the weekend and hosting a sol-out seminar for permanent makeup professionals and enthusiasts.

There’s no question that No Limits offered a unique experience to everyone who walked through the door, whether they were artists, vendors, or guests. Still, United Ink Productions is only just getting started in 2018! From June 29th to July 1st, tattoo artists and enthusiasts can join the fun at Summer Vibe Tattoo and Arts Festival in Long Island. Then, from October 26th to the 28th, the company is hosting their first-ever convention in the South with the Queen City Tattoo and Arts Festival in Charlotte, North Carolina. Both events are guaranteed to impress with unmatched artistry and entertainment from around the world. As spaces quickly fill up, artists and vendors are encouraged to contact their production team as soon as possible to book their spot!
