Would you like to introduce yourself to our readers?
I was born in Barcelona in 1988. My first experience with tattooing was when I was 15 years old: several friends and I bought some machines, and we tattooed each other. After going through several studios in Barcelona – learning from many people – I decided to open BlackShip BCN: a place where day by day I share knowledge and learn from my colleagues.

When did you understand that tattooing could be your job?
I started tattooing when I was 21 years old. My job as a metal worker / construction worker was compromised by the 2008 crisis. At first I only tattooed friends, co-workers and people from my neighborhood who lived without thinking about tomorrow, soon after my son was born and I had to become professional, I started tattooing all the styles (some better than others) and little by little I began to understand what I did best – which was tattooing using photos but with a traditional technique.

Over time I smoothed my shadings and lines and it began to become what it is now.

Beside tattooing, are painting and drawing also important for you?
It is important to have a lot of good taste when designing a tattoo, in addition to having the basic knowledge of proportions and anatomy. Actually I’m not great at drawing, but I have my tricks that help me to draw almost any design, using always reference photos.

What are your favourite subjects?
What I like the most (or what I feel most comfortable with) are flowers and animals. Flowers give me total freedom when it comes to fitting them into any gap, no matter if it’s a difficult spot. As they actually don’t respect much proportions, with the help of a good marker I can solve it quickly with some freehand work.

What about techniques?
My favorite technique is using solid lines and many color blendings.

Where did the idea of this eBook come from?
I’ve been thinking about publishing a book for a long time and, coincidentally, Miki Vialetto suggested to partner up. It has been a great experience working with the Tattoo Life team.

What are your projects for the future?
I would like to continue growing as an artist, trying new things and keep on pushing the boundaries of my style but without losing its essence. Something very important is the Black Ship Tattoo project, my studio. We are all the time having many new ideas and, little by little, with the help of Johnny (the shop manager) and the rest of the amazing team, we will keep launching new stuff, stay tuned!
