There are few current dancers like the Ukrainian-born bad boy of ballet, Sergei Polunin. He is a breathtaking talent who was formerly a principal dancer with the British Royal Ballet and is currently a principal dancer with Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre and the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.
In 2014 he started his collaboration with David LaChapelle and took part in his projects, including the dancing video “Take Me to Church” (music by Hozier) presented in February, 2015. In the amazing 2016 documentary Dancer, directed by Steven Cantor, he questions his existence and his commitment to dance. Cantor both captured the beautiful precision and physicality of Polunin and, through extensive archive footage, traced the underprivileged background of his childhood and youth.
Yet with his tattoos and bad boy reputation, he is part of a new era and about to become a living legend.
