To end the year with the right amount of fun and energy for the future, we asked this good-looking tattooed Canadian model a few spicy questions…
Hi Rachel, you have been modelling for years so what did this shoot for Tattoo Life calendar add to your personal story?
I was very happy to travel to New York to shoot for the Tattoo Life 2020 calendar. And Christian Saint is such a talented photographer. Tattoo Life is a beautiful magazine and I’m honoured to be a part of it.
When did you start your relationship with tattoo art, how old were you when you got your first tattoo and what ultimately drove you to choose ink in your life?
I was 16 when I received my first tattoo. It’s a Calla Lily on the back of my neck, I got it for my mom. She had to sign for it because I was underage!
Let’s talk about your proper tattoos. Can you tell me about that piece on your breastbone right above your breasts? It shows in every photograph of yours and I would say it’s a 100% Rachel Rampage tattoo…
Thank you! It’s a Halloween themed tattoo. Halloween is that time of the year when I feel most like myself so I decided to represent it every day.
On your left arm you have an amazing New School Bride of Frankenstein portrait. Were you fascinated by that 1935 horror/gothic movie masterpiece when you were just a teenager?
Definitely! Elsa Lanchester is so hauntingly beautiful in that movie. And I really appreciate alternative beauty.
Is that red-haired demonic female figure masterfully tattooed on your left hip inspired by you?
No, it’s not. I’ve been asked that before only because my hair was red. My hair was hot pink when I started that tattoo, now I’m blonde. To be honest I just have a thing for hot redheads.
Why the “Love Hurts” lettering on the upper side of your stomach? I know you are happily married to the right man…
It’s a tribute to “Love Hurts” by Nazareth, one of my favourite songs of all time! (smiles)
Can you give me a list of the trusted tattoo artists who have taken care of the ink on your body so far?
Some of them have dropped off the face of the earth! (laughs) I’ll give Alison Lilly (IG: @a_lilly_art) and Eric Brunning (IG: @ericbrunningtattoos) an honourable mention for sure! They both tattoo at “Black Rider Tattoo” in Vancouver, Canada.
Last question: you are our Calendar Girl for the month of December 2020 so of course I have to ask you what are the three gifts you most want to receive this Christmas…
No Covid-19! A leg sleeve from the great Alison Lill! And lots of red wine!
