Owner of “Grim City Tattoo Club” and organizer of “Covered Toronto Tattoo Expo” this brilliant Canadian woman is here to stay. Check out her stories!
First of all, must I call you Cadeau or Mori? On Tattoo Life Calendar you are featured as “Memphis Cadeau” yet…
Cadeau is my married name. I am no longer married so I’m Mori now. So my hashtag is #singlemomlife
What do you remember of your shooting with Christian Saint? Some funny stories or unforgettable backstage situations?
Christian is one of my favourite photographers and an incredible friend. I love getting to hang out and every time I’m in New York I try to see him. Even if it’s just to grab a bite.
He’s hilarious and I love that he plays in an 80s hair metal band.
Did you personally choose that charming yellow cotton dress?
Yeah! I usually style myself and do my own hair and makeup. I have very strong facial features so makeup artists tend to over draw my features when contouring so I turn into a skeleton on a diet. Not cute… (smiles)
Second time in Tattoo Life world: first a Tattoo Energy cover and now this October featuring. Have you scheduled a third time yet?
Not that I know but I’d be super honoured to be a part of the magazine again. I was super sick last time we shot as I’d just found out I was pregnant.
So I’d be happy to shoot again now that I don’t feel like I’m going to puke! (laughs)
I know you have many pieces and all killers no fillers, but do you have a particular tattoo you are most attached to?
I’m a mega fan of the piece I’m working on with my best friend draworking (info: ED) on my back left thigh.
I’m in a world of pain getting it but he’s such a talented artist and the piece is going to be insane when done.
Who are your favourite tattoo artists beyond the ones connected to Grim City Tattoo Club family?
Oh so hard, I think my number one is Chris Rigoni. He’s a great friend (well, internet friend) and has such a unique style. But I’m loving work from Tye Tremblay and the Ryan Twins from Salem.
Next major events for Grim City Tattoo Club? Will you attend any major Canadian or US tattoo conventions over the next few months?
Well, I just finished my tattoo convention I co-organized with Troy Timpel from Villain Arts in Toronto. It was Sept 20-22 – the “Covered Expo”; My first convention as a planner and I loved it! So for the next few days I’m burying myself into my bed and hugging my kids and my pets. Then October I’m back on the road again with Calgary, Los Angeles, Ottawa, Mayan Mayhem and Cancun in January 2020. Then it’s the circuit all over again.
Do you want to add any special words at the end of this interview?
Thank you for the interview! I am so stoked to be a part of it and to have been given this opportunity and I hope I can work with you guys many more times in the future. Cheers!
