We are counting down to The London Tattoo Convention 2019 only 14 days to go. The Tattoo Competition is a highlight of the event, where visitors will have the chance to see the best skin-inked artworks of the weekend on display.
The panel of tattoo experts will take to the stage to choose their favourites on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th September: meet the six judges of the 2019 Tattoo Competition below…
Master black and grey artist Mark Mahoney will be flying in from his famous Sunset Strip studio to join the judging panel. A legend in his field, Mark Mahoney has tattooed everybody from Sid Vicious to Tupac Shakur. This year Mark will also be scouring the convention for the best-looking booth – the winning tattoo artist or studio will score a special award handmade by Italian silversmiths El Rana.
Known around the globe for his innovative Japanese-inspired bodysuits, Filip Leu is a master of tattooing. Mentored by his father, tattoo legend Felix Leu, a young Filip travelled the world and worked with the best in the business honing his skills. These days Filip Leu is widely regarded as one of the best tattoo artists in the world and a pioneer of his craft; it’s a great honour to welcome him back to our judging panel.
Renowned French tattooer Tin Tin will be judging at The London Tattoo Convention this September. Famed for his versatility and skill, Tin Tin owns the famous ‘Tin Tin Tatouages’ studio in Paris and organises the Parisian ‘Le Mondial du Tatouage’ convention each year. With over 30 years tattooing experience in a multitude of styles, Tin Tin is an expert in the field.
Once a keen student of The Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, today Antonio ‘Macko’ Todisco is one of world’s finest chicano-style black and grey artists. A trip to Los Angeles in 1994 inspired a love of graffiti, cholo-style imagery and lowrider art that has informed his work ever since. This award winning artist has appeared at many conventions all over the world and is internationally published.
Luke Atkinson is the owner of Checker Demon Tattoos in Germany. Luke has travelled extensively learning the secrets of tattooing from the masters, from tattooing underground with Shotsie Gorman in New York to studying the art of irezumi with Horiyoshi III in Japan. He’ll be bringing his vast knowledge of tattooing to the judging panel this September.
Flying in from Switzerland, Titine Leu completes the judging panel for the 2019 Tattoo Competition. A former tattoo artist and self-taught painter, Titine is a member of the famous Leu tattoo family. She is known for her beautiful paintings of iconic tattooed characters and sensual female forms.
