Kelly Eden – beyond being a painter, a model and a ex-tattooist – is one of the most highly requested tattooed women in the United States. Know her better…
Going on with our interviews dedicated to all the twelve gorgeous, tattooed alt-model that embellish the official 2018 Tattoo Life calendar. This time it’s the turn of talking with the gorgeous Kelly Eden, one of the most highly requested tattooed model in the United States. A girl who owns a contagious and positive mental attitude toward life, childhood memories, Sailor Moon, massive pop stars and ink as well.
Is it really your pink bedroom the location on which the shooting has taken place?
Yes, that’s my own bedroom! My entire house is decorated in baroque, kawaii, deco style. It’s been a huge project over the past 5 years but it’s definitely paid off because I host dozens of photo-shoots there.
Where did your huge love for pink come from?
Well, pink is a very calm and relaxing colour which inspires me to be positive! (smiles) I like to surround myself with pink because I like my clothing and house to reflect my inner self and bring good and positive energy.
Do you confer some meaning to your tattoos?
Yeah, they are dedicated to all the things that I love and have good memories of. That’s why I like having them on my body! Because they always keep these lovely feelings close to my heart.
Does your friend Nikko Hurtado add some ink on your body lately?
Yes. We’ve been working on a few new pieces, as well as finishing up some unfinished work from years ago. The biggest project is re-doing my sleeve. I had the tattoo on my right shoulder lasered off and yes, it was very painful! (laughs) I had an old piece that I wasn’t fond of anymore. We’re covering it with another portrait from the Sailor Moon series, this time of Luna.
Why a Lady Gaga portrait on your right forearm?
Because she is such a versatile artist. I also have a lot of respect for her because she sticks up for human rights. Whether she’s supporting same-sex marriage, or speaking out about how twisted the music industry is, I believe Lady Gaga always speaks from the heart.
What do you have tattooed on your left calf?
On the left side I have a pink Power Ranger and on the right side I have a realistic portrait of Sailor Moon (see picture, ed). All by Nikko Hurtado, of course.
Can you describe the artwork in your back piece?
My back piece was inspired by my childhood. The unicorn represents my childlike imagination and how I used it as a coping mechanism for my depression. And that mythological animal is sitting in a snowy forest because that’s what it was like growing up in Colorado: you spend a lot of time in the snow.
Last question: what do you expect from the next months of 2018?
A lot of traveling! I’m taking some time for myself to travel the world and learn about other cultures. I’m hoping to learn new things as well as get some much-needed relaxation!
