The ‘Tattoo You’ Brazilian artist has become famous for his gorgeous embroidery patches tattoos. And we talked about the secretes behind them…
Eduardo “Duda” Lozano is a Sao Paolo marvellous tattoo artist that invented a unique tattoo style so far: the embroidery patches tattoos, as you can see in the various pictures along this post.
We have reached him to know something more about his technique and this is the result. Duda is a mix of wise words, positive attitude, love for his works and patches tattoos able to leave you simply breathless.
Here we go with the interview…
Basic question: how did you create your unique tattoo style?
Long ago I had already worked with logos creation for caps and embroidered shirts, but the tattoo inspiration came soon. I always tried to do something to differentiate myself from so many artists and this was the moment when I remembered the time I worked with embroidery. Yeah, I think I could find the differential!
Tell me something about your career: when did you start tattooing? Did you have some mentors in your life?
I started in 2002 when I had to weld their own needles. The difficulties in the time were the purchases of quality materials. My mentor was a friend (Claudio Botta) who taught me all the malice of the tattoo since the regulation of machines. Welds to the decal that was made with lapis copy.
Coming back to patches tattoos: is there a secret behind them? Something you can explain here about your work method?
Well, I would not say a secret, but the knowledge of light and shadow. Which is very important for the effect of reality.
Do you think your patches could include every subjects or do you prefer staying focused on comics, logos, cartoons and stuff like that?
Yes, I’m just at the beginning with this style and my head is bubbling with ideas! (laughs) Very soon you will have news.
I noticed a very well patched and rocky Rolling Stone logo (that famous red tongue) on your Instagram. Do you like their music? Favourite Jagger/Richards album?
I love Rolling Stones and it’s impossible for me to choose only an album, but the music of their biggest hit (‘I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’, man!
Maybe because in the chorus it says “I am never satisfied” or a concept like that. It’s the same that I feel in relation to the evolution in my works.
You don’t make only patches tattoos but dot works and realistic subjects too. Do you have a favourite style or are you satisfied with every work you approach?
Well, my dream has always been to work with realistic tattoos. Now I can mix with my embroidery and – as you know – the dream of every artist is always to make the style you like… (smiles)
Have you just booked some International conventions in the next months? Some guest spot abroad Brazil?
In three weeks I received some invitations to Napoli, Croatia and Barcelona conventions. And about guests I’m invited to France, Germany Spain, Italy, Colombia, Mexico etc. I have to prepare my passport! (laughs)
Is your agenda definitely full for the next months or is it simple booking an appointment with this Duda Lozano guy?
I’m moving to the first and biggest studio in São Paulo called ‘Tattoo You’ (as the infamous 1981 Rolling Stones album. Ed). Usually it was 2 months of full agenda in the old studio. I hope that it increases… (smiles)
Do you have a peculiar dream about your work or life in general?
My dream is knowing and travelling the world and I’m almost able to accomplish. For this reason I live in Capao Redondo, a neighbourhood of São Paulo. This is very peculiar.
Let’s talk about football because you are a very Paulista Brazilian…
Do you support Palmeiras, Corinthians or Sao Paulo in your metropolis? I have seen a Palmeiras logo on your portfolio…
No, get away Palmeiras from me! (laughs) I support Corinthians, the best team here in Brazil!
