The Linkin Park frontman committed tragic suicide on the same day his friend Chris Cornell would have turned 53. Leaving rock community speechless.
Music fans and tattoo lovers are very sad today. Definitely shocked. Chester Bennington, 41 years old, the unforgettable voice of Linkin Park, has been found dead yesterday (July 20) at his residence in Palos Verdes near Los Angeles.
After the tragic news, Mike Shinoda – the Linkin Park’s mastermind and the other half of the band – twitted: «Shocked and heartbroken, but it’s true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one».
The Linkin Park official Twitter account posted an eager and touching photo of Bennington in action on stage, surrounded by a multitude of fans.
Linkin Park were currently promoting their brand new album ‘One More Light’ (released by Warner Bros last May) and his next gig would have been at the Xfinity Center on 27 July in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Now it’s all over.
The dramatic and absurd coincidence is that Bennington’s suicide happened the same day as his close friend Chris Cornell’s 53th birthday. As everybody knows, Cornell passed away last May 18 in Detroit. Chester Bennington paid tribute to him, performing Leonard Cohen’s ‘Halleljuah’ at the funeral ceremony in Los Angeles.
We send our thoughts and love to Linkin Park’s guys, Chester’s relatives and to all the fans wearing tributes to him on their skin forever.
I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
