The Bay Area Traditional style was born in California in the 80s, and represents an evolution of Old school tattoos. Back then, tattoo artists began experimenting with multiple design styles, being influenced by cinema, music, and many different art forms.

Some of the pioneers and masters of this style are true legends such as Don Ed Hardy, Eddie Deutsche, Grime, Scott Silva, Tim Lehi, Jef Whitehead, Chris Conn, Theo Mindell, Mike Davis, just to name a few.

The Bay Area Traditional style is characterized by bold outlines, exaggerated depictions of the subjects, and above all the use of many bright colours – in contrast with the limited colour palette of the Traditional style.

This style also incorporates elements from other cultures and traditions, such as irezumi, cartoons, urban art and graffiti. The subjects are various, fantastic and imaginative, often ironic and irreverent, moreever Old school subjects are commonly reinterpreted in a new way.
