“Dragons are a predominant symbol in tattooing… In the last
twenty years I’ve painted and tattooed several. I’ve always
liked the traditional style they’re done in, but with the
passing of time I came to want to interpret them in my own way
and try and produce more dynamic designs”.
These are the words of Filip Leu, the great
artist from Lausanne, about these forty-five magnificent plates
collected in “Dragons By Filip Leu”, an art book designed in
collaboration with Miki Vialetto.
Filip Leu worked on it for two months in the evening after
laying aside the machine which produces the masterpieces on skin
that we all know. The medium is ink.
They took form in his mind and are given form by his masterful
hand.
Their bodies are possessed of a dynamism that makes turning the
pages look like a succession of movie frames.
The Japanese tradition blends with other elements of other
cultures to create that particular style we all admire in his
tattoo work.
